PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Talkative Tuesday

Talkative Tuesday

First and foremost, I added some new items to the blog yardsale- click HERE to view.

Second, don't forget to enter my giveaway for a $100.00 ShopBop giftcard here!

So, I got my gel overlays taken off this week and got the Shellac "gel manicure" done. I must say, I am hooked! My gel overlays were always so thick and now the Shallac is so very natural! Basically, the "non-chip manicure" 411 is this- Shellac, Axiuum, etc. are all the same thing, they are just by different brands. My salon offers the polishes by Axiuum (OPI), Shellac (Creative), or Harmony Gelish (China Glaze).

Basically, you get a traditional manicure, except the bottom coat, polish coats, and top coat are all gel based and turn hard under the solar dryer. You do a coat of base coat and dry, color coat and dry, top coat and dry ... you get the picture. Anyways, I am hooked! The colors are limited, but I found several on the internet that I am going to buy and take with me to my appointments! They last 2-3 weeks just like traditional gels or acrylics last.

Here are my shellac'ed nails:

Do you all do the non-chip manicure? If so, what do you think?

I am hooked on the axxium, but I will warn you that my nail lady said that the axxium adheres to the nail better than shellac and that she stopped offering shellac due to chipping issues.

I like it, looks great, what a good idea! Is it expensive?

I'm not sure if I've seen your ring before, but it's gorgeous! I am excited to try shellac soon--love the idea of going so long without chips.

i've tried the OPI gell- manicure twice now and its worked great both times! It last about two good weeks for me before my nails are grown up too long and I just can't take it anymore! but they never chip its perfect!

They look great. I haven't tried Shellac yet, but I did OPI Axxium once. My problem was that my nails grow so fast that I would need to get touch ups every week. It's not as big a deal if I'm wearing light colors though.

Very pretty!

Oh my goodness, I am OBSESSED with the Shellac manicures!!! I've actually got an appointment this afternoon for a new color. I'm at my 2 week mark and mine still have not chipped and are just as shiny as the day I got them done. I love it!!

Did it smell normal or 'chemically'? I am pregnant and don't need any crazy chemicals going in my body! I really want to get that done though, my nails chip the next day most times!

em- it smelled normal, nothing like chemicals!

I just did the shellac, and while I love it - i have to say I was a little bit disappointed. Maybe my guy wasn't that great, but after 2 weeks, its starting to rub off the tops of my nails. I want to love it, though. I've gotten a different brand than the one listed and it lasted a full month before I had any issues, although it was crazy expensive because I did it last year before the shellac or axxium hit main stream. I've also heard that the axxium does more harm to your nails than the shellac because they have to buff the nail. Any idea if that's true?

This post is such perfect timing. Looking at my diy opi mani today had me depressed. I even had a debate over Shellac vs OPI Axxium. Now I will try the Shellac, they should compensate you for this some how. Excited to see the results.

I love your nails! Where do they do this in Memphis?

i have tried all three (shellac, axxium, and gelish) and have found axxium lasted the longest for me (and even then it was only two weeks…which kind of bugged. i was hoping for three. i guess maybe i'm a little hard on my hands…but it's not like i'm a construction worker).

Looks great! Love the blue!

I heard Axxium lasts longer than shellac because it is a thicker setting (but also that it damages nails a bit more)? Do you see a difference in the thickness? And can you tweet the state of your nails when they take them off? (You can see I've been deep in thought over this.)

Been dying to try this, I've heard the light colors last longer than dark.

I used OPI Axxium once and HATED it! Nails were so dull, not shiny at all and the color looked nothing like the regular version. Plus, it took almost 2 hrs to apply. A year later, I finally decided to try Shellac. It is super shiny, long lasting and less harmful than Axxium. Unlike the OPI kind which gets painted on with a brush. Shellac is a normal polish that gets painted on. LOVE Shellac...don't ever bother with Axxium!
