Well kids, my procrastination has gotten the best of me. About a month ago I received emails from google apps stating that it was time for my domain renewal. I will be the first to admit my email inbox management is less than stellar. I kept putting off these emails until I forgot about them. Today I went to www.prettyinpinkmegan.com and it would not load. I then remembered that I was supposed to renew my domain and never did.
Awesome! I thought to myself that I would probably just be able to click a button and renew the domain for the 10 dollars. Boy was I wrong. See, domains are like real estate (this is according to my friend Just Dandy), companies buy expired domain names as soon as they are available again with hopes that you will want to buy it back from them for an outrageous price. Homie don't play that game. I just went to GoDaddy.com and bought a new domain name (www.PIPMegan.com) and transferred the content. That's all fine and well until I realized that any previous post that has been posted anywhere or that comes up in google will no longer work. UGH. Why does this stuff have to be so complicated? Does anyone have any tips for this or am I just SOL?
So anyways, same site, different URL. Please take note and pretty please if you've linked me in your "reading list" or side bar links please update the link.

Hope everything can eventually be transferred over without issue- sorry lady! But yay shorter URL??
Link updated! And believe me, I understand on the procrastination front. It's one of my most well-developed skills ;)

Same thing happened to me- I procrastinated because I wasn't blogging at the time and when I wanted to go back and blog- it wasn't there!
I use blogger and godaddy.com, too and I called them to see how I could get my domain back. Once Google releases the name back to the host (GoDaddy), GoDaddy will reserve the name in hopes that the person who previously owned the domain will pay $80+ to get it back (people will if it's a big name). If you dig deeper and ask more questions though, they will tell you when the domain should be re-released to the public. Once it's re-released, you can go back through Google Checkout to purchase your domain like you did the first time for only $10. The risk you run is that someone else will buy up the domain once it's released and you won't ever get it back.
I took my chances- I can't imagine many people would want the domain "emaleighrust.com". Until it was re-released, I reverted my website back to emaleighrust.blogspot.com. My domain was released back to GoDaddy in May... they kept it until recently (I just checked today- we're good!) and it's back up for purchase. I'll probably go through Google Checkout tonight or tomorrow.
Hope that helps!
So glad mine is on automatic renewal! What a pain! Will update the blog roll on Pink Julep... Good luck!
OMG I just renewed mine domain too. I had no idea that could happen. This weekend one of my widgets wasn't working and was causing my post not to come up on my blog. I was freaking out because I know nothing about domain names, the internet etc. I wish it was all easier. Hope you get it worked out!
You can definitely transfer you old posts over to the new domain. Using blogger help sections I was able to streamline my old blogger hosted domain with my Disqus comments onto my new GoDaddy site... I don't have specific tips except that Google and the help sections of GoDaddy/Blogger are about to become your BFFs! Good Luck
