Recently on Twitter, Petunia in Paradise tweeted about a pair of J Brand Skinny Cargo Jeans that were supposedly all the rage- she said they were sold out and that her sale's associate said they were the "new hot item". Of course, I had to check this out because if it's sold out or "the next big thing", I need it, right? I don't even think I liked the pants at first, but I tend to get really hyper and anxious about things when they become "sold out", so I scoured the internet to find a pair in my size to order. I need to see what all of the hype is about.
I will admit, at first glance these look kind of grungy. I am honestly not a fan of cargo pants, but the trend has grown on me as I am seeing more and more celebrities wearing these on websites and in magazines.
This is definitely a look that hinges on what you wear it with. I have seen some pictures of this trend that look completely awful, while other picture look glam if worn right.
I think this could be a great trend for casual summer days. It is also very versatile as the cargo pants can be dressed up or down. Here is how I would wear the trend:

Those would make me look like a contestant on the Biggest Loser pre-weight loss! I think someone your size could pull them off- but I think they make Rhianna look big, and she is teeny! I'm surprised J. Aniston has not been wearing these- that girl loves her some cargo pants.
Love this ensemble. If I had super skinny legs I feel like I could pull this look off, but I think the pockets would accentuate my hips, not a good thing.

I don't like them. They are a cute idea and I don't mind cargo pants, I kind of miss them actually! But these are the most unflattering pants I've ever seen... slapping a big pocket on the thigh of tight skinny jeans makes the thigh look bigger... So when I see them on even the tiniest celebrity, it makes their legs look kinda fat... So I would vote no, but I'm sure this is something I'm going to be seeing on everyone for a long time... just not on me. Great post!
Um. . . I think they're terrible. They look like an unfortunate mistake. . . Haven't seen them look good yet.
Megan - not sure if you shop at "the Banana" but BR also has skinny cargo pants. I bought a pair last winter in black and I love them.
Urban Outfitters also has a cropped pair right now that are almost identical to the JBrand.
One of those things that if not styled right...ick. I like how you styled it w/ aviators and white.
I like them, and actually, think would look kinda cute with the clogs you blogged about the other day.
I don't have the body type for those but I think they'd look fab on your cute frame.
I just got the LV Neverfull shown in the last pic with Hilary Duff and I am loving it -it's the perfect size for summer to throw everything into!
Unless you are a size zero or less, those pants are a BAD idea. Heck evern if you are a zero or less, they're bad. They give instant thunderthighs. I like cargo pants, don't like skinny jeans. Put the two together and you get a horrid mish-mash of opposing silhouettes. Just b/c famous people wear them does not make them any more attractive to me. Most of the "famous" set wouldn't know style and class if it hit them over the head.
I do love your fashion sense Megan, but make sure buy things b/c YOU like them, not some stranger in a photograph ;-)
Nooo!! It's like Hollister all over again: so low, too tight, makes you a bubble butt, and CARGO. It's 2003 all over again :/
It's probably the California girl in me but I love cargo pants. I love throwing on a pair of da-nangs with a soft t and flip flops for day of trolling the malls & running errands and although the skinny pants look doesn't suit my figure I definitely like them on others

Ick! Sorry, but those are not my style. As others have said, you may be able to pull them off, but I know I couldn't! I do understand the desire to see what the hype is about, though!
I think they are cute and would definitely make a great outfit with the right complimenting pieces!

i love them! cargo pants in general aren't a very flattering look but i think the skinny leg on these makes them work. plus the j brand version has been everywhere! i can't wait to see how you style them!
Not my favorite, but hilarious that the style is "Houlihan". Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan was the resident sexpot on M.A.S.H. She wore her fatigues pretty tight! LOL
