PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Merry Merry

Merry Merry

Well, we all survived the holidays! I hope you all had a great Christmas.  I decided to try the widely popular "sock bun" on Christmas Eve and holy moly- I think I have too much hair to do this.  At one point it looked like a small platter dish was floating on top of my head.  It made for good conversation, though.  Someone would compliment my hair and of course, being my awkward self, I had to be like, "OMG LOOK THERE'S A SOCK IN THERE, JUST LOOK FOR IT, DO YOU SEE IT?".
Vest: Vintage from Sugar Plum Consignments, Dress: J.Crew (old), Boots: Madewell (on sale), Bag: Phillip Lim, Earrings: Kate Spade

A lot of you have asked about this pink lip color that I wear, and it's Estee Lauder Pure Color lipgloss in Fuchsia Vibes. I couldn't recommend this gloss more- it's awesome.  The color comes out like a lipstick and it stays on great.
Friends, I am having a time with my hair lately.  The ends are so ratty and the top is so weighed down.  I am in dire need of a new shampoo and conditioner.  What do you all love?  I have A LOT of hair, but it's not really thick and course, it's more fine.

This is how I feel every time I have to comb out my hair from the shower.

Have you all heard of LRX&CO?  It's like a flash sale for authentic vintage designer items.  I am lusting over all of the Chanel earrings on there right now.  You can sign up here.

I want it all.  Let me know if you buy anything, so I can be jealous.

love the vest:)))

lately, this is how my hair feels too. i wondered if it was from putting more lowlights in instead of blonde. it feels flat on top and the ends feel ratty/fuzzy. i was thinking maybe it's the weather? wasn't like this during the summer.

My hair feels the same way! I tried using several salon brands. I used Wella Brilliance- which smells amazing by the way. It worked well for a week or so. I also tried Sebastian Moist shampoo & conditioner, I wouldn't reccomend. But I would reccomend the Sebastian Potion 9 (remember this from every beauty magazine in the 90's?) It did cut my drying time down. I want to try the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi & Ginger line, which is sulfate- free. The other day, I bough Dove Ultra Moisturizing shampoo & conditioner and have been using it for 2 days and my hair feels soo soft. I know it's full of chemicals (which I HATE) but they make my hair so darn soft and manageable!

i also have very thick, but fine hair. i comb it out with conditioner and a wide tooth comb in the shower, then comb it out again after it's dry, but it'll tangle right back up again if a breeze so much as touches it. it also gets limp, greasy, and flat at the drop of a hat. it's so frustrating! i avoid any kind of gel, mousse, cream, or other product after the shower. what works for me is brushing it with a tangle-friendly brush to add volume, back combing at the roots, blow drying only with a diffuser, and curling it with a lightweight hairspay (i use loreal elnett). on days my hair just hates me and wants to be limp, i let it be, and just put it in a ponytail and tease up the crown.

I definitely have too much hair to do the sock bun, too. Kills me cause it'd be so easy to be ;azy if it didn't look like I could be hiding fifty kids in there.

Megan, how do you like the Philip Lim bag? I got it in the Taupe for Christmas, but I'm not feeling it so much. Not sure why. I'm 80% sure that I'm returning the bag. How do you feel about this bag ?

Hey! Sorry I don't have a google ID, but I LOVE Enjoy brand luxury shampoo/ conditioner, its expensive, but worth it. You can buy sample bottles on amazon and they get you at least 5 uses because it's so concentrated :) merry christmas! :) Danielle

Lol, I think the bun is so cute! How did you do it with the sock? My hair has been feeling the same way at the roots. Let me know if you find something good!!

hope you had a great christmas! I have yet to do the sock bun, I feel like my face is too round for it, looks so cute on you though! I am having a hard time finding a good shampoo as well! You should try the macademia mask for your ends if you haven't! It is amazing for conditioning!

try aveda "smoothing" shampoo and conditioner. my hair is very similar to yours- long, needs conditioner but gets weighed down easily with product. amazing!

Hey Megan,
So, I suffer from a similar problem, tons of hair, but super fine. My hair is sadly not as long as yours (I'm working on it though!) Anyway, I have tried like every 'million dollar shampoo' on the market, but for the last 2 years I have been using this cheapie from Sally Beauty and it works like a dream! I tried the "real" Moroccan Oil brand shampoo/conditioner and did not like them at all... So, you should give this stuff a try - if you hate it, you're only out about $20 for both!

Shampoo:

Conditioner (I like this mask better than the regular conditioner as it is more nourishing. I only wash my hair 2-3 times per week):

I love the Organix line for shampoo and conditioner. They just came out with a biotin/collagen formula and I tried it out for the first time tonight so hard to say what the results will be. The macadamia oil conditioner is AMAZING. Plus it's sulfate free, organic, etc, available at drugstores, and on sale often!

Alterna caviar shampoo and conditioner, followed by bamboo thermal protectant spray (use before blow drying). Ulta carries the line, but I purchase at sephora. Good luck!

I feel like we have the same hair type {fine, colored, a bit feisty} and if so, then I swear by the Suave Keratin line. NOT KIDDING. The shampoo, conditioner, leave in and dry shampoo and I will go to the grave. I was spending $$$ on the Macadamia, Redken, and Fekkai lines until this came out. I usually turn my nose up to something so cheap, but it has gotten crazy rave reviews in the beauty blog world so I tried it, and never looked back! I've been using this line since the summer, and my over processed bottle blonde has never looked better!

I highly reccomend Aveda "Smoothing" Shampoo and Conditioner and their brilliant heat protecting spray.

Have you ever tried Clear shampoo & conditioner?? I got it in a box of items for my blog once and fell in love. It leaves my hair feeling really good (and I can go days without washing it)and it doesnt feel weighed down

When my hair was as long as yours it was also way too much hair for a sock bun. My normal ballerina bun was as big and full as a sock bun. I use two different shampoos Fekkai apple cider clarifying for my roots and scalp only, then organix coconut milk or Fekkai smoothing for the rest of my hair. It helps balance the flatness dryness thing.

Also coconut oil on the ends as an overnight leave in was huge for me.
