Lord have mercy, y'all! Vegas was such a whirlwind of a trip. First of all, as an anxious flier, I had a nightmare of an experience with American Airlines this trip. Let's start out with the flight from Memphis to Dallas- excellent flight, except for the plane was literally from 1974. The seats were so janky and the magazine holders were falling off the back of the chairs. I had an empty seat next to me, so it was great to be able to just spread out. Once we got to Dallas our flight to Vegas was already delayed, so we chilled in the Dallas airport for a bit. Finally we are ready to board our flight to Vegas and surprise, it's another plane from the Ronald Reagan era. The air was going on and off while we were boarding and the plane was SO hot. I was sitting next to a woman who was saying she had high blood pressure and felt like she was about to pass out. We sat on the plane for what seemed like an hour while the air went on and off as well as the lights on the inside of the plane. The pilot announced that the APU wasn't working and that we'd have to get off the plane for the maintenance people to fix it. Then seriously the plane would not start 3 or 4 times when the pilot tried to boot it back up. We de-boarded and sat in the airport again for what seemed like an hour. People were flipping out saying they weren't getting back on that janky plane and actually a lot of people opted for a different flight the next day. Since I HAD to be in Vegas the next day for work, I had no other choice but to get back on the plane that wasn't working correctly. We all got back on and I immediately ordered some wine and just said to myself, "eff it, this has to happen". Luckily, we eventually made it to Vegas at midnight, which wasn't late by Vegas standards. I was AMAZED at the amount of babies and old people out that late in Vegas. I have never in my life seen so many crazy people out that late. I felt like such a loser because all I wanted to do was go to my hotel room and order room service.
So let's get to the next day, the beginning of Cosmoprof, the Cosmetic Professionals Conference and Trade Show that we were there for- it was so awesome and was so fun to attend as a beauty lover and a professional in the cosmetics world now.
Here are some outfits that I wore during the trip:
I rented this dress from Rent the Runway and was so pleased with it:
So let's get to the trip back ... we were supposed to go through Chicago this time to get home to Memphis. I randomly checked my phone around 12 pm (3 hours before our flight) and our flight to Chicago had been canceled for no reason. We called the AA number and they were able to get us to go through Dallas instead (like our trip out there). We raced to the airport and made our first flight to Dallas and SURPRISE, it was the same damn plane we came there on. We had a great first hour of the flight and the second hour the pilot came on and said there were storms in Dallas and that we'd probably have to be in a holding pattern. We circled around the Dallas airport for about 30 minutes and then he came on and said we'd have to DIVERT to San Antonio because we were OUT OF FUEL!!!! I really had to try hard to prevent a panic attack, but amazingly enough I was totally calm. We luckily landed fine in San Antonio, but had to sit on a holding pad (not connected to the gate) for about an hour while the plane re-fueled and the pilots checked it out so we could return to Dallas. We finally get back up in the air to return to Dallas (where it's still storming) and landed in a storm. We then sat on the plane another hour because there wasn't an available gate. Keep in mind our plane to Memphis was supposed to leave any minute. We finally got off the plane to find out we had missed our connection to Memphis. I had to stay at the lovely Best Western by the Dallas airport, I called it my staycation in Dallas.
Finally the next morning I was able to make it home to Memphis. Overall I am glad that AA was so concerned with safety to fix all of the issues and to divert and everything, but OMG it was all such a nightmare. Do you all have any crazy stories like this? As someone who always flies Delta, I was just completely shocked at how much of a sh**show AA was.
Anywho, here are my momentos from Dallas and Vegas (I collect these):

What a nightmare! Flying is bad enough without all that happening.
Cute mugs!
your flying experiences sound like something out of a movie. i thought airlines were supposed to retire janky planes? good grief! bummer that you didn't get to shop or explore vegas!
In one trip:
-1st flight to destination: delayed flight overseas, causing us to miss our connection to another country.
- 2nd flight to destination: on connecting flight someone died and they made us all walk past her when getting off the plane.
- 1st flight home: diverted to yet another country for a medical emergency onboard.
-2nd flight home: we land in the USA and 4 customs agents came onboard and arrested 4 people.
No kidding.
That is SO brutal!! The worst I ever had to do with was we were taking off to go to Austria years ago and the wheel on our plane popped! We had to be dragged back to the gate which took literally hours, and get on a whole new plane.
I used to work in dispatch for an airline, so I can totally understand how scary it is when the pilot tells you you're out of fuel - but in truth, there is so much extra fuel on board to get you to the alternate airport during a diversion! Sometimes I wonder why pilots share information about maintenance items like APUs with passengers, it sounds so much scarier than it actually is! Glad to hear you prefer Delta, though :)
Well did you get anything cute at least?
I was once on a flight that was delayed bc a part of the wing fell off- luckily bc of the delay I had been drinking otherwise I would have waited. LOL
And OMG NoPermanentAddy's experience is so redic!!!
I would have lost my damn mind. Seriously.
Yeah, that is basically my biggest fear. I don't know that I would have gotten back on first plane! That was brave!
I'm having a panic attack just reading this
I had an AA nightmare last year coming home from a 3 month cruise ship contract. Seattle to Chicago, where my connecting flight to Nashville was cancelled. Luckily had a friend in the area who came and rescued me until my rescheduled flight the next evening, but when I got back to the airport that next flight was cancelled too, so they moved me to a different airline and flight, which there wasn't actually enough time for me to get to. Then back to the AA terminal (at this point in tears) where they put me on standby for two possible flights that night, or at least for sure one the next morning. Luckily they finally fit me on the second standby, so I got home 24 hours later than originally planned.
Love this post! Enjoyed reading more of your writing. I recently started following you on IG after reading on here for years, and never realized how funny you are! You crack me the hell up on there!
I'm LOVING all of your Vegas outfits. Your hair in that picture of the dress from Rent the Runway? Gorgeous! (Makes me want to go wash mine now. Ugh.)
When I was in college, I had to fly home from Monroe, Louisiana to Indianapolis. I always flew on Northwest Airlines and flew through Memphis. One night I was flying back to school (I did this about five times per year) and there was terrible ice. So I got stuck in Memphis and had to stay at some random hotel near the airport with no luggage, no toiletries, no nothing. This was back in 2001 or something so people still checked their bags and I definitely didn't think to have my phone charger with me. And I was like 19! Anyway... flying can be SO inconvenient and still so convenient depending on what's going on that day. But it gets even worse when you're flying with kids and you don't have enough formula to last through a six hour delay and don't have a place for them to sleep while they're delayed in an airport.
So glad you had fun in Vegas!
I LOVE that first pic, OMG, I can completely relate as that is how I have felt on many a flight. I guess as much as I have had to travel for work, I've been very fortunate as the worst thing was being stuck on the tarmack for 4-hours (I tried to sleep so I wouldn't be ill, my stomach HATES flying! Your story sounds like an absolute nightmare. I want to take a trip with my Labrador soon, so I'm hoping nothing bad happens for his sake.
The conference you attended looks like so much fun! And I hate flying so glad you made it back safely; I would have been a wreck after all those issues and delays. Lastly, your hair in Vegas was doing it! Perfection 1000%!!
Your hair is STUNNING in the RtR dress photo! It is so "Casino"-esque! Love it!
