PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Ramblings

Ramblings

Pottery Barn outlet in Memphis was a let down :( Someone described it as being similar to a TJ Maxx ... you just have to keep going back and looking for new additions.

The venue where I am planning on having my ceremony AND reception is open two dates in May and completely booked in June. I am thinking May sounds like a good option :) Also, I think I have decided against a wedding planner. I think I have enough free time and planning experience to plan my wedding. Let's hope I stick to this mantra and don't end up hiring someone last minute !!!! Any thoughts? Do we think May will give me enough time to plan?!

Okay, so here is the long-awaited engagement story. It really isn't that elaborate ... R is so funny, he said he only had the ring for three hours and just couldn't wait any longer.

So, our official one year anniversary was last Wednesday, October 22. We had planned on going to dinner at one of our favorite Memphis restaurants, Interim. We get to dinner and we both CHOW down. I mean Rob scrapped his plate clean (very uncharacteristic for someone who was supposedly "nervous", but the boy LOVES food!) I always want dessert at nice restaurants and normally, so does Rob. After we finished our dinner I adamantly insisted that we get dessert, but Rob said his stomach was hurting, so he insisted we leave. After walking to my car, Rob insisted that he drive my car. He opened my car door for me and I look over and he is down on his knee with the ring box. I immediately started laughing because I didn't know what he was doing on the ground. Another funny thing was that I immediately snatched the ring from the box without giving him a chance to put it on my finger/!!! HAH... I am attracted by shinny objects, I just couldn't help myself! All in all I was so excited and happy. I was also glad he didn't actually propose in the restaurant.

Are you having the wedding in memphis? May sounds good time wise. You can def plan the wedding on your own. Sometimes it is a good idea to hire a "day of" planner/coordinator who can take care of everything on the big day so you have nothing to worry about.

what are you thinking colors and dress wise??

How sweet! You sound like me, all I can think about are shiny things! haha I'm kidding! But, seriously...I do love diamonds!

Good luck planning the wedding! I did not hire a wedding planner and did just fine. It was sometimes tricky to meet with the vendors and such, but I like to think that I planned the entire thing from my desk, during lunch. We had a very traditional ceremony with a reception at a club in downtown Dallas... So, it can be done. (nice club, not like a dance club... ha ha) Can't wait to see what you choose!

Where is your venue?! THAT totally helps you decided if you need a coordinator or not!! Time is really the only thing that you need a planner for, especially if you do it not in the same location you are! She would be able to go to all of your appointments and explain to the vendors exactly what YOU want instead of you having to call and doing alot over the phone! My wedding planner is a angel, she does everything for me but lets me do everything myself as well! ALL the booring stuff she does! AND, she was WAAAAAY reasonable!! She just did a guest blog post on my blog, go read it! LOL.. if you pass on a planner.. DEFF get a DAY OF, you do not want to worry about the ring bearer or the flower girl being dumb or the cake not getting cut or something silly like that! Much LOVE! Your story sounds like mine, JUST LIKE THE MAN!!

If you are having a big wedding, or at least a fancy wedding, I would suggest you at least get a day-of planner. That person will take care of everything for you on the day of your wedding so you don't have to worry about anything. TRUST ME It will make your day 1000000000 times better! You better hit the ground running w/planning if you want to get married in May. I'd book your ceremony and reception places TODAY and also the photographer. Good photographers are booked YEARS in advance! In the next coupld weeks try and lock down your main vendors! Also it takes 4-6 months to get your wedding dress in once you order it, so i'd get working on that too! Sorry if i'm freaking you out, but I just wanted to be honest!

Very nice story :) I can't believe he made it thru an entire dinner with the ring in his pocket!

Pottery Barn Outlet is a real let-down, you're right. A) there are always about 3000 people in there, pushing and running around (is it THAT important to get a rug??) and B) most stuff is either damaged or missing parts or is discontinued because no one wanted to buy it in the first place. But like you said, if you go often you can find some deals on nice things. I think they usually sell out fast though.

I think May is the new June for weddings. You will have perfect weather! I am sure that with your sense of style you can put together a gorgeous wedding!!!

Were you surprised with the proposal???

Hire a day of only. I like to plan everything myself but I have been in enough weddings and seen the huge difference that a day of planner makes. You don't want stress that something will go wrong.

This has nothing to do with your blog today, but as a blonde who is always trying to achieve that "perfect shade of blonde", I was just wondering what your hair dresser does to get your gorgeous shade? It always looks so amazing and I would love to know "his/her secret"!
Thanks Megan :)

Oh Miss PIPM, what a fun story, especially the part about your being attracted to shiny things! Did you have *any* clue whatsoever he was getting close to asking...?

Thanks for sharing the story... we love hearing them and we always smile after reading them. You are going to be a beautiful bride. Yep.

And your color/furniture/etc. selections are fabulous!

I'm in the bridal industry and I highly recommend that you hire someone for the day of. It makes it so much easier. Then all you have to worry about is enjoying your day. It flies by!
