PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: A Sad Realization ...

A Sad Realization ...

{Victoria Beckham, the queen of sky high heels}

This weekend, I had a sad realization while lusting over a pair of mile high platform Louboutin espadrilles. I just can't wear high shoes anymore. It's sad. It breaks my heart, but I just can't buy any more high heeled shoes and let them sit in my closet.

The espadrilles in question were on hold for me at a local store. I tried them on, put them on hold, thought about them, tried them on again and then realized that I just can't walk in them. I am a slave to fashion, but I just can't wear high heels anymore. They kill my feet. Even these espadrilles were outrageously high (at least 5 inches). I tumbled around like a loon as I tried to prance around the store like a pro. Megan 0 Espadrilles 1.

I prefer flats these days. I literally wear them every single day. It all started with this little pair of lovely flats a few years ago:

Here are some flat sandals I'm really diggin' for spring:

{Giuseppe Zanotti}

{See by Chloe}

{Fendi}

{Chanel}

How do you all feel about high shoes? I just can't do it anymore! I give in!

I, like you, have had to come to the bitter, cold and ugly truth-I can't wear the sky high heels anymore! I'm short-my legs are short-and I guess I"ll just have to deal with what God gave me! I hit 25 and my knees decided they were over my stilettos! How sad! I do, however, have a gorgeous new collection of flats....

i can still wear heels but not the sky high heels and if i do wear heels i can't wear them everyday. so i usually alternate....heels one day, flats the next. if i wear heels two days in a row my knees ache like crazy.

It is an ugly truth. I wore heels every single day for years. I then I became pregnant, now my knees and ankles just won't hold up to them. In addition, I had a hip injury a few months ago. The unfortunate part, I had finally built up my heels to have all I needed for every outfit I have in my closet. Now I'm doing the same for flats. Some work and some don't and there are many days I put on an outfit and realize, I don't have a pair of flats for that. So now, I'm having to re-build my shoe collection. Sad, I know.

I am wearing flats right now after killing my feet in these adorable red heels at a wedding this weekend. I wear flats a lot even though I'm short. Hubs is only 5'8" so he does not mind my lack of height at all.

OMG, I die :-)
Must-have-Chanel-flats! Soooo classy! I really love your post about wearing high shoes, I guess every woman knows what you are talking about! Don´t know how Victoria Beckham can wear her heels beeing with her childern, I would stumble like crazy. I often wear wedges in summer, they go with everything. But Lauboutins? I have a conession to make: I can´t walk in Lauboutins ;-(sad, but hey, there are so many nice flat shoes out there ;-)
I´ve been following your blog since a few weeks, but I never commented- shame...I really enjoy reading it!You are really beautiful by the way!:-)

Since i don't get to dress up for work, I still take every opportunity to wear heels. no matter how high. the suffering continues! i do wear a lot of flats now though as well. i LOVE the Chloe flats!

10 yrs ago when I developed the DVT and had to wear the compression stockings each day is when I stopped wearing heels that were over 3 inches. My husband is a wee bit shorter than I am anyhow. Oh well.

You have pictured some beatiful shoes that you can wear instead.

Oh my goodness I don't think I'd last 5 minutes in victoria beckham's shoes. I feel the same way about flats - I wear them everyday. The only time I'll slip on pair of heels would be for an interview, or a party/wedding.

I am the same way! I see people walking around in sky high shoes and I wonder how bad their feet hurt at the end of the day!

I still love heels bc I am only 5'3 and hate always being the shortest person in the room! They do kill my feet though and I often sit shoe-less at my desk at work bc my feet hurt so bad. How dumb is that?! I just need to wear flats or lower heels but I just can't! I do wear flats from time to time but not nearly as much as heels.

I agree. My high heels come out on special occasions. There are so many flats that out-cute heels these days, that I have totally given up the fight!

Your sandal picks further instill my theory! ;)

I have slowed down on the heels too when I started to learn about all the foot problems you can have when you are older. So I alternate heels and flats and I just read in a magazine the other day that a Podiatrist said that you shouldn't wear a heel over 2 inches because of the strain it places on the body. So I am going to try to start sticking to that rule with any new purchases.

Loving those flats you picked out! As much as I love heels, nothing beats the simple chic of a great pair of flats. So Audrey Hepburn.

I have a few pair of high heels that are still comfy, but if I am looking for some height, I prefer wedges.

Before this past year, I never wore flats! Now I love the way they look with skinnys or leggings!

Yep, it's true, there is something with mid twenties that makes you give up your precious heels. I stopped buying heels around 25 or 26 because my feet were killing me. The only time I break them out now is for a dressy event or evening, which is rare. I do wear my heeled boots in the rain because my other options are not weather resistant like my boots. But that is it. Sad I know...

Don't get me wrong - I love love love a good pair of heels. I wear them almost every day.

HOWEVER, I am finding flats to be a lot more practical and am looking forward to adding to my collection!! I love the TBs and I have about 3000 pairs of flip flops, esp living in Florida, but as long as they look fashionable and are COMFORTABLE, I'm all in!

LOVE those Chloe sandals!

I can't wear heels anymore either - It's kind of essential though, in a professional wardrobe, so I wear flats unless I have to go out and be seen. Sad but true.

I had this realization last year and it was so depressing. I still try to rock the heels for special occasions, but my feet get so sore, it's not worth it! I use my sore feet to justify buying Revas...

ugh, me too!! it makesme so sad. And lately I can't even wear those cute flat sandals you posted because my plantar fasciitis was acting up. i need an arch.

only dansko clogs and running shoes until i get it under control again.

ugh!!!

I have had the same realization recently, particularly because I realized that teaching 27 4th graders all day in stilettos isn't the most logical choice. Love those blue and white flats, though. Precious!

i am completely like you, love them ,adore them but can't anymore! give me flats!

I am a high heels lover. I can't help it. I have yet to fall for the flats trend. While I think they look adorable on most people, I just feel like they make me look stumpy. Guess I'll be wearing those heels til I'm hobbled over and all shriveled up!

I am all about flats, but unfortunately I do have to wear heels most days. Our EVP at work is a fashion maven - and expects the women in the office to wear heels and look amazing everyday. When I do wear flats, I try to make them as cute as possible.

I love your chanel flats!

I gave up on heels a couple of years ago. Luckily, there are SO many cute flats out there (especially those Giuseppe Zanotti's...)

I recently started to realize that I can't wear heels anymore either. I started just wearing heels to court and now that I'll be chasing 1st graders, flats are more practical. It's devastating at first, but it gets easier. I think I'll always die a little over a hot pair of heels though.

Firstly, Chelsea Handler was recently talking about how V Becks had gotten horrible bunyons from always wearing heels... not sure how true that is, but sounds realistic.

Secondly, I had a similar realization a while back. I'm a huge fan of wedges though! Also, if I wear heels, it's door to car, car to table and reverse... you can't stand in them for ages! That's too much to ask! Love your flats choices though! Super cute!!!

I realized this a long time ago, but I can't help it, I love the way I feel skinner in heels. Takes off 5 pounds! :-)

I can't wear heals either :(. At least not for long periods of time. If I do, I must wear flats for days to make up for it. I can still wear wedges, so that's a bonus! My bunion hates all heals...and even some flats that come too close to it. It's pretty tough finding cute shoes I can actually wear. In my early twenties, I was able to wear them daily...sky-high, all the time. I'm paying for it now!
At least you've found some super-cute flats to ease your pain.

I can no longer do pointy toes. Only round!

I can't give them up ... especially with suits and such to work. I have my "high" heels I wear out on the weekends and my "sensible" heels (2-3 inches) that I wear for work.

I have definitely noticed that if I go longer without wearing them, they're harder on my feet... sorta like being "out of shape" for heel wearing.

right there with ya! i'm a teacher and gave up on heels during the day after my first year. now there are so many cute flats that it's Ok to sport them when i'm not at work! =)

love those sandals by the way....come on warm weather!

I broke my right ankle three times as a child so I can immediately tell upon putting on a pair of heels whether or not they are wearable on me and sadly most are not.

I can completely relate to this! I have so many pretty heels that sit unworn while I continue to choose flats instead. This past summer and fall I finally gave in and stocked up on a variety of flat sandals and shoes that are perfect for both work and going out, but I'll hold on to the heels for special occasions.
