Question From a Reader

Recently, I received a question from a reader that I thought would make a good post.

Hi Megan,

I am a regular reader of your blog, and I wanted your opinions on a couple of things. You have an AMAZING sense of style, and I would very much appreciate any input you may have.

First, I am in a wedding this summer out in Santa Cruz, California (in July). The wedding and reception are both outside. I have been instructed to wear either a brown, red, or yellow dress. The bride hasn't really put any restrictions on what we can wear. Any ideas as to what to wear? I am big fan of yellow, but I am not sure, as I haven't found anything yet. When should I start looking?

Help!

First of all, I think this is a very odd requirement ... I could understand maybe one color, but saying it has to be one of three? That is just a little silly. Also, yellow is the only summer color in this bunch, which would make it extremely hard for girls to find a red or brown dress in the middle of the summer.

Either way, I guess you have to adhere to these rules to be a respected guest, so let's just play along for now.

I would start off with yellow since that seems to be a very pretty summer color for weddings. Also, I think you will have a better chance of finding a yellow dress than say, a red dress. Each of these dresses are very different, but they all meet the yellow requirement:

Next we'll move on to the brown dress requirement. Here are some cute brown dresses that I have found. Might I note that I think this would be the last choice for you, being that brown is not typically a summer color:
