PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: I hate Cleaning, yes I do!

I hate Cleaning, yes I do!

I think cleaning might be my nemesis. I would rather do ANYTHING before cleaning. I put it off until it absolutely must be done before we look like we could be on an episode of hoarders. I am just not very organized at all. I wish I could be organized and be a crazy clean person, but so far that's just not happening.

We definitely have C.H.A.O.S- "Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome". Our house is usually a mess and if someone wants to casually stop by I have to make up something like, "Oh, let me just meet you outside ... "

Do you all hate to clean? What helps you get motivated to clean, because I am desperate.

I am going to clean out my closet today and post some new things for sale either today or tomorrow so be on the look-out for that!

the biggest motivating factor for me, to clean and keep clean, is that I lose things otherwise. clothes, shoes, you name it and I can't find it if there is chaos. When I sit down in the living room and things are in order, I can really relax. If it's a mess, I just can't stop thinking all the things I need to do. Once you give it a good purge and clean, it's so much easier to keep it that way! Good luck!

Really loud music helps me. And just doing it all at one time and getting it over with helps...like early on Saturday morning.

I read this one time on another blog and it has helped me stay focused. Set your phone alarm for 20 minutes or however long and get to work. Just tell yourself you'll stay focused for that amount of time. It's amazing how much you can get done in a short amount of time.

Long time reader....first time commenter....but I keep the house clean mainly because my husband is a NEAT FREAK and it drives him crazy to have a messy house...I clean once a week (he helps if he's home or I do it while he does yard work)...and clean everything on that one day! Takes me about 2 hours, solid, but at least it's all done! And since I do it once a week, it's never THAT messy. That doesn't include laundry...I do that twice a week. Also, several friends use http://flylady.net/ =) Hope it helps!

I hate cleaning, too! My motivation is to have our maid come and clean 2x/month to do the "heavy duty" stuff that way I can do the easier chores. I highly recommend it!

I don't enjoy cleaning, but I really love a clean house, so that's pretty inspiring. When that's not working, caffeine and hip hop blasting on the speakers always does the trick! :O)

I'm what you would probably call a clean freak (okay I call myself that too) but the main reason I am the way I am is because I don't like spending days cleaning. If I spend an hour every night doing some light housework then my house is always ready for drop by guests. I have seen friends spend weeks cleaning houses and playing catch up on organizing, laundry and projects before having people over. My sanity and time is much more important to me than that.

The best thing you can do is make a list of small things you can do every day. Don't spend more than an hour or you will get burnt out. Then on Saturday or Sunday set aside a couple of hours to do more heavy cleaning that you'll need to do weekly and then one weekend a month add an extra hour or so to the deep cleaning. If you get on a good cleaning rotation you won't need much motivation because it will be a habit.

Good Luck! XOXO

I'm really bad to clean and whenever I do get in the mood, I get discouraged because my savage of a husband just messes it up again! hahaha Suppose that's the way it goes. I'm dying for a cleaning lady, but by the same token, I don't really want strangers in the house when we're not there. Or when we are there. I try to keep myself motivated by inviting people over, cause then I HAVE to clean before they come. And my hubs is really helpful too... he pitches in! But otherwise we have CHAOS too, which is embarrassing for me to admit...

Oh, one more thing, my mom is a fan of the "put 5 things away every night before you go to bed" which I find helps with clutter and routine.

CHAOS, that made me chuckle!

I am the opposite, I have to clean (dust, vaccum, mop, clean the toilet, etc.) every week or I can't relax!

I guess I'm a weird one that doesn't hate cleaning... I'm a little OCD about it. I just like everything in it's place. I have found that spending just a little time every day can go a long way.

I keep the house picked up and vacuum 1-2x/week, do laundry daily instead of letting it pile up.

Then on the weekends I mop every weekend and alternate cleaning the bathrooms and dusting every other.

Keeps things from getting out of control.

I'm a bit of a control freak and I can't relax at home unless everything is in its place and the place is clean :(
We tried getting cleaners but I always end up cleaning after them (no OCD history in my family LOL)

I broke 1 or 2 vacuum cleaners we had in the past until my fiance just took over vacuum cleaning in general (muahahaha). I try to schedule a massage for myself the day after cleaning- it's a great motivation for me :)

When it comes to cleaning I bribe myself. If I clean the bathroom then I can {insert bribe here}

Pathetic but it works!

I've decided that I'll never ever be motivated to do stuff I hate, like cleaning or exercise. I just have to make a conscious decision to get off my butt and do it, even if it does suck. When I worked I wasn't motivated to go to my crappy job every day, but I got up and did it because I had to. Same with crappy housework!

I have a good friend come over. I can't sit still, and so having a friend sit on a couch and talk to me while I clean is a great motivator. Especially when I start to get distracted and want to do something else. Then said friend reminds me to keep cleaning. So, you get the benefit of quality conversation with a good friend AND a personal cheerleader.

FYI: I'm posting on your blog when I should be doing laundry.
