PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Turning British

Turning British

It's no secret that I love makeup and beauty products of any kind. Well, recently my obsession has been fed by Guru YouTube videos. I have spent hours watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. I am not sure why I never knew about these videos before now, but I have recently found some gals that I truly enjoy watching!

If you're into this kind of thing, I'm sure you've probably heard of these girls already.

First, my absolute favorite are the British Pixiwoo sisters. I have watched nearly all of the videos they have uploaded onto YouTube. Here are just a few of my favorites:

I have recently found Lisa Alderidge videos and while she's not as animated and funny as the PixiWoo girls, she's surprising subtle and interesting to watch. Here are some of my favorite videos by her:

If you know of any other makeup gurus on YouTube that I should be watching, please share them in the comments!

I have watched so many pixiwoo videos that I now have a shipment of Oilatum Natural Repair moisturizer coming from the UK! They make me want to buy everything they try because they are so convincing!

Additionally, I am in desperate need of new makeup brushes. Of course, by watching these videos I am convinced I need Suqqu brushes, but those of you who love this sort of thing -- what brushes should I buy?

I love the gurus! Try makeupbytiffanyd, lolamarie7, emilynoel83 and michele1218. Lolamarie is probably my favorite but she does more hair tutorials - they're pretty awesome though!

Hi Megan- I agree with Mrs. Bill. You will love MakeupByTiffanyD and Michele1218. I also watch emilynoel83 and Lolamarie. Also check out MakeupBy Alli, LisaSZ09, hrhcollection, lette76, lisalisaD1, ginabinawina99 and lanaindiana (she is a riot!). I know you were interested in makeup brushes. Have you heard of Sigma brushes. A lot of this gals use them instead of MAC. They are very inexpensive and they are great!! I have purchased a few and I don't plan on using MAC brushes anymore. Hope this helps....welcome to the makeup world...it is very addicting....and so much fun! xo Vanessa

I love these videos too...some of my favorites are HRHCollection, Michelle1218, MakeupbyTiffanyD, Pixi2Woo (she's dates the PixiWoo girls' brother), fleurdeforce, NaturesKnockout (they use all-natural products), Allthatglitters21. Most of these are repeats that other commenter's mentioned and I agree 100% with all of the ones they mentioned. I really like LolaMarie7 too...but def more for her hair tutorials.

Ok, not a makeup comment, but I have a question on self tanner. I have fair skin, but want a little color. Have you heard anything about Bare Escentuals Faux Tan? If you have a minute, I'd love to get your opinion. Thanks!

MakeupbyTiffanyD is a great one - as already mentioned several times. And she highly recommends Sigma brushes. I plan to order some soon as I am in desperate need of some new brushes too.

I bought all new brushes from Nars last year and I love them! I'm not in love with the blush brush from there though... I find it works better with highlighting & shimmer powders. My favorite blush brush is from MAC.

They are my obsession too, I've learned a lot from them.

You should try Samantha Chapman's (one of the Pixiwoo sisters) brushes! They are my new favorite. You can get them at Ulta and this week is buy one get one half off. Look up Real Techniques on YouTube to watch her demonstration videos on each brush/set. :)

I agree with all of the suggestions above. Emilynoel, Lolamarie7, MakeupbyTiffanyD, LisaZ09, MakeupbyAllie, and Pixi2woo (Sam and Nic's soon to be sister in law) are some of my faves. Oh, and Bentley Blonde too.

I am also obsessed with makeup gurus on youtube. Almost everyone has mentioned makeupbytiffanyd - I like her a lot. Some gurus that haven't been mentioned that I love are:
FleurDeForce (cute brit chick)
missglamorazzi (I want my hair to be this long)
MakeupGeekTV (some looks are kinda tranny, but she's informative)
emilynoel83 (mostly drug store brands which is less fun, but she's great on camera)

Then there is always the Fowler sisters, Elle & Blaire... but they get on my last nerve. I think they are getting a reality show. http://www.elleandblair.com/

Also - the Sigma brushes are very good quality, I bought a set recently for only around 150 and I love them.

I agree with all the comments. As far as brushes are concerned, definitely try out Sigma brushes. I was sent some to try and review and I love them. In my kit and for personal use, I use MAC, Sigma, Bobbi Brown, Sephora, Crown and Sonia Kashuk.
If you are looking to do a smokey eye, the brush you definitely need is a blending brush. Make sure it's very fluffy, this is key to smoking up the eye.
For looks that you need to apply more color, you'll need a short, dense brush. This will give you the most color payoff.
Brushes are definitely key when trying to create a specific look.
