A few years ago we were supposed to go to Las Vegas for our anniversary but canceled the trip last minute. I am still yearning for a trip to Las Vegas. I've never been and I've always heard that you must go at least once in your life. I am big on people watching, so I want to people watch, shop, eat out, and check out the amazing entertainment in Las Vegas.
There is a direct flight from Memphis to Las Vegas, so I want to go for a long weekend and do the city stuff, as well as the Grand Canyon and Area 51 (I'm an alien/conspiracy theory nerd).
This is what I would pack if I were going:
I think when we were planning our trip we had a room at the Palazzo (because I STILL to this day get their emails), but where do you all suggest staying?
Have you all been to Las Vegas? Any recommendations?

Let us know what you see at Area 51!!
I LOVE Vegas, but find that I only want to stay 2-3 days; otherwise it wears me out. I know a lot of people really don't like it, but it can be really fun. The shopping is amazing, and the food is awesome!
My husband and I love Vegas so much - we've probably been there 7-8 times and never get tired of it. There is always something new to see and do. My main recommendation is to consider staying in a non-gaming hotel. It is so nice after being in all the craziness of the casinos and the strip to go back somewhere quiet and relaxing (and smoke-free!). We love the Mandarin Oriental (they have the best spa in LV, though Wynn is also very, very good) and have also stayed at the Four Seasons. I think Vdara is also non-gaming, but we haven't stayed there.
Shopping in LV is fabulous, of course. Crystals is amazing and a must-stop, and the LV Premium Outlets are the real deal too, and well worth the cab ride there and back. The outlets are kind of on the way to downtown, and my husband always likes to do some gambling there as well. Our standard is to share a cab that drops me off at the outlets, then he goes downtown and gambles for a few hours and just picks me up at the outlets on his way back. It works out really well. Hope you get to go - LV is always so much fun!
Las Vegas is my hometown! I would be happy to give you tons of recommendations if you go!
I would stay at Aria or the Cosmopolitan -- way better locations than the Palazzo and union.
do:
neon sign graveyard
springs preserve
red rock canyon
conservatory at bellagio (all real, organic material!)
eat:
bouchon at venetian (or stop by the bakery for a TKO)
sage at aria
best breakfast is tableau at the wynn, in fact every restaurant in the wynn has amazing vegan options! (eating outside at the lake or dreams or a cocktail at parasol down outside)
mon ami gabi at paris (for outdoor seating — or across the way at olives at the bellagio)
fleur de lys as mandalay bay
china poblano at Cosmopolitan
shop:
crystals at city center
the shops at wynn and encore
fashion show mall
forum shops at caesars (where there is a vosges!)
Premium Outlets

I absolutely love Vegas! We go once a year for the NFR and try to go at least one other time for a long weekend because it's a fun getaway. My favorite places when we are there for a weekend:
Hotels:
Mandalay Bay - very nice, although it's on the South end of the strip so you have to taxi cab or drive to go elsewhere. If you go in the summertime, they have the best pool.
Palazzo or Venetian - great location and shopping within.
MGM Grand - they have a lot of shows there, so depending on what you're doing, it's a good place to stay.
Shopping:
Forum Shops at Ceasars
City Center
Shops at the Wynn
Palazzo Shops
Premium Outlets
Fashion Show Mall (although you have a lot of these stores so it might not be as exciting for you)
To Do:
Shop (duh! haha!)
Hoover Dam
Bellagio Conservatory
There are a lot of great comedians and magicians who have shows in Vegas. I personally want to see Tim & Faith perform too.
oh my god megan... you would love vegas!!! its such a sh*tshow with all the crazy tourists in their insane outfits... you would eat it up. plus the shopping is NUTS!!!
i remember when you posted about wanting recs before the trip you canceled! here are my recommendations, in one handy little post - i go to vegas every other month for some gambling/shopping/eating :)

feel free to tweet or email if you have any questions! i am happy to help you out girl!
We went to Vegas about 3 years ago for a wedding and had the most amazing time. We are dying to go back! The strip is really fun, but you definitely need to get outside the city to see how beautiful the desert is. The best place we went, hands down, was the Surrender nightclub at the Wynn hotel...you'd love it!
Hubs and i stayed at the Palazzo and loved it! Granted, that was 5 years ago....I didn't think I would love Vegas so much!
If you could make it during the week, I would go then instead of a weekend; all the crazies were coming in on the Friday we were leaving! Although, that would make for good people watching.....
I actually like Vegas! My husband and I have been 3 times. We have stayed at the Wynn everytime. It is gorgeous. We are not big party people so we basically go to lay by the pool, eat great food and shop for me! Last time we only left the Wynn to shop at Ceasars and the Fashion Mall across the strip from the Wynn. It is a little pricey but totally worth it! We did see the Cirque show Love and it was a lot of fun!
We stayed at the Venetian and loved it. Shopping is incredible. The whole experience is crazy. It's a must do.
thanks for the fabulous recs everyone!
I am here!!!!! There's plenty to see, do, shop... You want it, they have it! :)
Hi Megan!
My boyfriend and I love going to Las Vegas. We live in LA so its a quick getaway for the weekend. He love staying at the Cosmopolitan. Great service, exquisite rooms and some rooms even have a balcony. We usually book the room with a balcony facing the Bellagio foundatins which is really nice. We have never had a problem there. I know the Palazzo and the Wynn are also very nice but we prefer the attractions in the area of the Cosmopolitan.
Prepare to do a lot of walking. I would recommend planning out what attractions on the strip you want to see and plan your hotel around those. Have fun!!
I would stay either at Aria or Palazzo for the easy access shopping. Aria for high-end Crystals or Palazzo with access to their own fab shopping center below (DVF, Tory Burch, barneys etc) and walking across Fashion Show mall with Saks and NM!
we dont gamble so I cant make suggestions about that but i think theyre all pretty much the same. Most restos are fantastic too!
We stayed at the Bellagio and loved it!
I lived in Las Vegas for two years and loved it. I would frequently to "staycations" and my all time favorite place to stay was the Cosmopolitan. It's the newest large hotel and just beautiful. Very modern and sleek and the rooms are impeccable. If you stay there you have to ask for a room with a good view of the strip- it really is amazing. Also, if you plan on going I recommend signing up for Las Vegas groupons and living social. They always have tons of good deals for restaurants on the strip. Also, Red Rock Canyon is beautiful if you want to do something outdoorsy. But in the summer time it gets way too hot there, so be careful.
Have fun!!!
Amber
When I went I stayed at Caesar's Palace and I loved it. I found Vegas a bit cheesy, but it is fun... Though I've always said if I went back, I'd go with a big group of people because it's more fun that way.
I am going the weekend of August 17! YOU SHOULD COME WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!
Its market week there... would be funnnnnn!!!!
Just went for the first time last month and am going back next month. We went to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Damn. Definitely worth it! I hate we didn't have time for Area 51. I could have used the entire trip to shop though.
Just went to Vegas recently and stayed at the Cosmopolitan and it was so nice! And super close to some really amazing shopping right next door at the Aria (YSL, LV, etc.) someone mentioned the premium outlets while we were there, but we live close to one here at home so we passed on that. We only stayed three days but I seriously needed two days back at home to recuperate! But it was a lot of fun. Hope you get to go soon!
Stay at the Cosmo!!!
