Am I crazy for wanting another ...

PUPPY! That's right ... I am so obsessed with my puppy that I want another one! Rob and I have been talking about perhaps getting another brussels griffon from either Miss P's kennel or the national brussels griffon rescue association.

Don't get me wrong, Miss P is quite the handful, but she is just so freakin' adorable and sweet! Plus we really want her to have a friend. Miss P's kennel, dreamweaverkennels, just had a new litter born and here is the adorable black and tan boy:

The only thing about getting another one from her kennel is the price ... yikes. I am thinking we can possibly adopt for next to nothing. Check out this cutie 8 month old girl, Olive, from the rescue association:

Or, they also have Jessie ... I love his snaggle - tooth:
Do any of you all have any experience adopting pets that are over a year old? We have only had Miss P, and we had her from practically birth. Are they hard to get acclimated to everyone and everything?

Just keep in mind that a male dog will be more difficult to house train. There should not be any difficulties adopting an older dog. Good luck in your search.

Oh, these dogs look so pitiful and sad. There has been a dalmation, I call her Fifi, at work and the animal control people came today. I cried. Seriously.

My old roommate adopted a dog from a rescue and I've known several other people that have done it as well. Most all of them have had great experiences with it. A lot of times the websites will have a description about the dog explaining it's behaviors and how it interacts w/ other dogs. As long as you let them know what you're looking for, they should do a good job of matching you up with the right dog.

Good Luck!

My dog was between a year and half and two years old when I found her and had been treated badly by her previous owner. I had to teach her a lot but she caught on and she's wonderful now. It worked out very well for me.

You should always go with a rescue dog. Purebred dogs have a market and are bred accordingly - they usually always go to great homes (because people are paying hundreds, and even thousands, of dollars).

Better yet, try going to your local SPCA or pound. Those dogs are even more desperate for a good home. For what you would spend on a purebred dog, you could give a dog in need a wonderful home and maybe donate the "extra" money you would have spent to the organization.

My neighbors adopt rescue greyhounds, and my best friend's dad adopts rescue goldens, depending on the dog,and in general they are very sweet, and kind because they are happy to be in a nice, loving home. Plus they are already house trained. I think the rescue people have to see that you have a home that is dog friendly and you are a nice person. In general I have heard rescue animals can be the best. Hello! I found your blog via Mrs. Preppy. We adopted both our dogs and one was about 15 months, the other was 7 years. It took us a little longer with our older dog, but, at the time she was our only dog (used to living with other critters) and I think confused, etc. But, she did well.

They have both been great, we love them and rescue dogs are wonderful because you know that you are really saving a life.

Good luck!!
