PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Calling all decorating experts!!!!

Calling all decorating experts!!!!

As I said in an earlier post, we are hosting a little housewarming/engagement soiree this weekend for my bridesmaids and a few of our Memphis friends. In true PIPM fashion, I have waited until this week to finish decorating my house. I blew out TJ Maxx the other day (their home section has some reall good finds!) and I'm headed to some antique shops today.

My couch FINALLY came yesterday. I ordered it in October. Imagine my excitement. Apparently when you get a couch custom made it can take up to three months ... add in the holidays and you get delays galore! I'm just glad it arrived before our fete on Saturday.

Here she is:

I am still perplexed on what to do with a random corner in my living room. We were going to get a bookshelf, but honestly, our living room is small and I feel like it would make it look too crowded with a bookshelf.

My second option is to find a tasteful "Tree" of some sort. Fake or real, that is the question. What do you all think? Some sort of tall plant that will make the corner pop. Should I just get one of those fake ones? What about a tall lamp? Please tell me y'alls opinions because I have ONE day to find what I'm looking for ... here is the corner:

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and do you think the plantation shutters are enough or should I get drapes as well?

Hi! I couldn't resist commenting!
For the corner what if you did either a pedestal with a vase of faux cherry blossom branches or pussy willow. For summer you could also put in a leaf like this http://jrroses.com/images/monstera%20Leaf.jpg
...very pottery barn : )
Love the couch!

As I designer, I would put the TV in that corner since it currently looks like it's in front of a window. A nice seating arrangement with those two chairs would work kind of where the TV is now from what I can see.

Hope this helps.

I agree that I would move the TV over, out from under the window and then swap the chairs over to where the TV was (disclaimer: not a designer - I just agree with her!).

is there a plug in that corner? because Id put a standing lamp there... and maybe a smallish (11x14) print of some sort near it (not so its over shadowed by the standing lamp)

My first thought was a tall lamp. Please don't get a fake plant. Ew. Lol.

I love your shutters, I don't think you need curtains but maybe something sheer would look nice. Have you looked at urbanoutfitters.com? I LOVE that site.

Great couch, the pillows are so pretty and look great against the brown!

something quick and easy is you could put those little corner shelves there and display pictures, etc. I also agree that the t.v could get moved over.

I've never commented on here, but love reading your blog! My parents live in Collierville and my mom is obsessed with decorating. I recommend First Fruit Collection on the square in Collierville. I guarantee you'd find very fun and unique accents to add to your very cute house! They even have real trees that went through some sort of preservation phase so they still look perfectly real yet you don't ever have to water them! Good luck with finding something!

I love the pillows on your sofa! I would either move the t.v. or get a tall lamp or do the cherry blossom idea.

I read your blog all the time and as others have said, couldn't resist commenting :) I'm not a decorating expert..haha...but I would say if you got curtains, it might make the room look smaller. I like the idea of moving the t.v., as well. Love the couch and the pillows. SO CUTE!

From the pillows I know you are a potterybarn fan (I have those in green)If you wanted to do something fake make sure it looks very real. Potterybarn just put out thier "spring" florals. Im sure if you told them your color scheme they could fix you right up!

I agree with comment on the fake tree. Nate, the decorating guy that Oprah features a lot says to NEVER use fake, always real. I've never like fake tree, floral arrangements, etc. Your room looks great! I love the color combo! How do you like your couch? It's very pretty. You should check out www.theletteredcottage.blogspot.com Layla has great decorating ideas and even does consultations online for people. She has some of past work on there and I believe she is going to be on the HGTV Design STar next season. Can't wait to see more of your cozy home!

I think the plantation shutters are beautiful and should be left as is... no drapes!

it definitely needs something tall back there...and in a contrasting color...but that is really as far as my ideas go...unfortunately i am not so creative with home decor! i see some other great ideas here though in the comments...

I love your new sofa!
If you can't move the TV, then I would put a small chest or decorative table with a mirror or artwork over it in that corner on the bigger wall. Then a small lamp and little accessories on the table/chest.
Homegoods and Kirklands are good inexpensive options.
