GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!!
I know, I know ... law school didn't exactly work out for me. You would think that I would have learned my lesson, but no, I think I want to go back to school!
I think I am going to shock everyone with this one, but I think I want to go back to school to be a Nurse Practitioner.
I have a bachelor's in Psychology and Political Science. UT offers an accelerated BSN program for people that already have bachelor's degrees, but that want to get a BSN in nursing. It would take ONE year. Then I would have to apply to a NP program.
Or I could go straight to grad school for counseling ... that sounds good too! I could easily do counseling, but I would have to take that dang GRE. I am scarred from the LSAT, I will tell you that.
Gah! Why does it have to be so hard to find a good job right now? Basically a bachelor's means nothing anymore. You pretty much have to get a master's to make any money or get a good job.
Any advice?

You are totally not crazy! I'm in the same boat your are... my parents spent a small fortune on my private college and I'm in the same boat as someone who didn't get any education! Ugh It's awful!
You need to be a medical sales rep. You're hot and it's fun. Match made in heaven!
i'm right there too! got that private school education and my BA means nothing!!! i'm considering going back for a masters too! but that "dang GRE" ewwww!
haha!
I have a degree in Fashion Merchandising from USC and I am taking the pre-recs to get into nursing school. I couldn't get any satisfying work with my degree, so back to school I went. I take the test for nursing school soon, so wish me luck!
Good luck to you!!
I hate how everyone has to get their masters these days. Why isn't a plain old 4 year degree good enough? Nursing is great because it's so flexible, plus you'll never have a problem finding a job. Good luck!
I am struggling with the same thing! Good luck and if you get it all figured out, share the knowledge with all us other twenty-something lost souls looking for the perfect career!
well..medical is definitely the field to be in, if that helps you any. It's a lot of work but if it's something you want to do then I suggest doing it!
I'm right there with you, lady. I got a Masters ten years ago,but have absolutely no desire to ever use it. Not finishing law school was the worst mistake I ever made, but I left two years ago (when R. took a job in another town) and am too scared to finish. I have a background similar to yours and am thinking of getting an MPP/MPA to be a policy analyst or even a high-level grantwriter. I've been a full-time Junior Leaguer for a couple years now, and as much as I love volunteering, I just feel like I'm ready for something more.
I always think that more education is the answer; it opens doors that just aren't there. Don't let anyone tell you that it isn't worth the tuition. It is always helpful!
Coming from personal experience, the GRE is far easier than the LSAT!
On a far lighter note, I just started a fun fashion/style/cosmetics blog at http://mintjulepsandmagnolias.blogspot.com/.
Good luck! You'll be great at whatever you do! Knowing what you want and setting your goals is the key!!
I have a degree in mass communications b/c I wanted to go to law school, but got married instead. Then I went to nursing school. Now I'm applying for a masters in nursing anesthesia. So I say Go for it!! P.S. Love your blog.
No, you're not crazy! It is so important to have a career that you LOVE!! Good Luck! xoxo
You are not crazy!! I am feeling that urge as well! I have my bachelors degree in business admin/marketing but Im currently working in human resources and Im interested in getting my masters in it. The only problem is my bf is in the air force and I will be moving around alot in the next like 20 years or less and human resource jobs arent the easiest to attain. You are lucky that you can go back for nursing...I just couldnt handle the blood and illness..I get queasy just walking in to a hospital! Good luck on your decision!!!
My sister is applying to nursing school right now. Be forewarned--there are a ton of prereqs, which surprised me since she majored in biology!
I studied for the LSAT but never took it and ended up going to grad school instead. The GRE is MUCH easier than the LSAT. That program at UT is supposed to be good. My best friend found out yesterday that she had been accepted into it. Good luck:) You'll make the right decision!!!!
I assure you the GRE is nothing like the LSAT!
Miss Megan, this makes perfect sense to us, you would be fabulous at it! And as tacky as it is for me to even bring this up, the shortage of qualified people for the positions is only going to heighten, increasing your income possibilities substantially.
Yo go girl!

I'm currently doing a BSN program. I have no life aside from school right now because the program is so intense being that it is only one year, but at least I'll be done in May. I plan on going back to school again in a couple of years to become a Nurse Anesthetist.
If you want any advice on a masters in counseling feel free to e-mail me..acleves@luc.edu. I'm half way done with my masters in counseling at Loyola U of Chicago and would be able to help with any questions. My parents live in Collierville and I had randomly looked up schools down there and found that U of Memphis also has one. And honestly...the GRE is really not bad at all. Get the Kaplan book from Barnes and Nobles and take a few hours to review and you'd be just fine!
I went to grad school & it totally PAID off. the GRE isn't bad at all..I hardly even studied...and I found the GRE requirements are pretty low for most grad programs. good luck!
I'm in a similat situation--i got my BA and have a job, but, I don't love it and I am thinking of going to grad school--but, honestly, I just don't know that I'm prepared to go BACK to school. Ugh! My cousin went back to nursing school and loved it.
Good luck!
My sweethubby is trying to get me to go back to school for some type of health career. I have a BBA in Management (so generic) and went back and got my Masters in Teaching, which I seriously regret considering these positions are few and far between and you usually have to "know" someone to get a job. I am going to have my courses reviewed and try to decide on the best route, as much as I hate the thought of going back it looks like if I want to be able to get a job it's what I'm going to HAVE to do. Let us know what you decide.
Graduating with my RN in less than 3 months. It's a lot of pre-reqs and they all vary depending on what BSN program or even ADN program you're trying to get into. It won't be a year... it'll be more like two with all the pre-reqs. The program is very intense and you have no life. The field is amazing. I have four job offers and I'm not even done yet. You start at $21-24 as a new grad. And there's always shift differentials... like nights is $6-9/hour more.
Don't go into nursing unless you love it!! It's a hard job. Long hours and very sick pts.
as someone who is working as a nurse now and considering leaving the profession entirely to pursue teaching...work as an aide in a hospital before making this leap. i'm just saying...get your feet wet and see if you really will LOVE nursing. i think it is a career that you do have to love in order to be happy in it...
best wishes, and i'll look forward to seeing what the future holds for you! :)
