To upgrade or not?
Are any of you current iPhone 3G peeps going to upgrade to the 3GS on June 19th? Rob and I desperately want to upgrade, but we think it's bogus that ATT is charging existing cutomers 200 more dollars to get the new phone than a new customer.
I know the new software release will give us certain features that will be on the 3GS, but I want the faster application loading, 3mp camera, and I would love the video feature!
What are you all doing?

I held out and held out and held out until I just couldn't anymore, and I went yesterday to pre-order mine at the local AT&T store. I'm a current AT&T customer (have been for years) and I wasn't charged anything extra at all, just $299 for the white 32GB version. My brother currently has one and isn't going to by the 3GS; he's just going to download the software upgrade. If you truly want all of the extra features. I'd say go ahead and get it!
I don't know much about iPhones, but I just did a post on my addiction to my blackberry! haha.
I saw about the price and was pretty ticked. Not fair! I will not be upgrading. I don't do any high-tech stuff with my phone - basically internet, texting, and all the apps, which work fine for me. I barely use the thing as an actual phone :)
However, if they let existing customers upgrade for maybe $100, I'd do it.
ATT always charges for upgrades if you are not due for one, no matter what the phone. I am not sure why everyone is getting mad about that. Luckily I am due in October, so will probably wait till then.
I wish I could upgrade but I'm not due for one yet and can't afford to just buy a new phone. The new one does look really cool!!
I have thought long and hard and I am going to see how much the upgrade helps and then decide from there- It's a tough one.
I've had my iPhone almost two years and would love to upgrade, but it's ridiculous they're charging a premium to existing iPhone users. But, yeah, I'll still probably upgrade despite AT&T's extortion. :)
WAIT! Remember how people were having sooo many issues last year with then when they first came out? I totally recommend waiting so that they iron out the quirks
What?? $200?
I bought the 3G six months ago and was just planning to do the software upgrade. Given the price of the phone upgrade, think I will stick to that until I'm due for my next "free" upgrade.
everyone that i know that has one is upgrading, hey i say, UPGRADE! all those new features seem so cool!
I just gotmy iphone not too long ago...so I am just going to download and see how that goes. I personally don't like that fact they are charging extra to existing customers, but they know that people are going to buy it if they really want it regardless of the amount.
You've just reminded me that I lost my cell phone about 2 months ago... totally forgot! Don't need one on the island and can't use I-Phones here... sorry I can't help with this one!
I'd say stick with the one you've got and buy a video camera instead!
i am dying for one. but still on the parents cell phone plan of sprint. and getting an iphone would mean paying a lot AND actually paying phone bills. think I will hold off. boo.
I just got my iphone in May, so needless to say I wish the guy at AT&T had told me the new phone was coming out this month. I guess I will just download the software instead! AT&T charges for everything! I'm surprised the software is free!
I would be all over this except that when we go to our lake House or Schweitzer Mt. (mountain cabin) to ski) there is no coverage through AT&T. We have to have Verizon, that is the only company that covers that area. Isn't that lame? Everyone I know has Verizon, but we would all love to have an I-phone. Why can't they partner with V too? That would be amazing. I do love my new, improved Crackberry, but an I-phone would be even better!
Yeah I think that extra charge is bogus. I'm gonna wait it out.
