PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Goin' to the Dark Side

Goin' to the Dark Side

Well friends, I think my battle with roots has come to an end. I have searched and searched for an answer to the "root" problem, but it seems the only solution is to just dye my hair darker. As someone whose hair grows like wildfire, it's just impossible for me to not have darker roots within a couple of weeks. I have done this before in the past, but somehow my hair always ends up blonde again. Hopefully this time I will be happy with the result. As you all know, I have been gradually adding in more and more lo-lights. At my appointment next week I plan on keeping a few highlights on top, but dying the rest of my hair back to my natural color which is a dark blonde/light brown. I know most people go lighter in the summer, but here's to going darker!

Here is what I would look like with darker hair thanks to the In Style Makeover Feature:

megan, i'm letting my chemically straightened hair grow out to its naturally curly state and while the wait is killing me i know it's what's healthiest for my hair! here's to going natural, at least yours is a quick fix!

Dark hair is easier, looks healthier and less expensive. I cannot even tell you how much it was costing me to stay blonde, with highlights and the whole get up. You can still play around with dark hair too. I'm adding some subtle highlights in mine for the summer. Good luck! Can't wait to see the result!

Your blog is so cute! I am a fellow natural dark haird gal that goes blonde. In fact I am having to suffer through the next week until my touch up appt. Luckily my hair doesn't grow very fast but by the end of my 7 weeks between colorings I am needing it bad.

Personally, I think blondes get the shaft. We grow up with beautiful, naturally light hair that everyone praises us for and then it just starts getting darker and darker. We are left with the lifetime struggle of chasing our blonde dragon and spending a fortune doing it. I've gone darker a few times, but always come back to my blonde ways. Good luck...I hope it doesn't make you sad!

I think you will look great! Highlighted hair is great.. but sometimes it's just not worth the upkeep, time and money. I see pictures of me with lighter hair and sometimes get the sad feeling that I want it back.. but it usually quickly passes. Don't worry about it you will be pretty no matter what your hair color!

Oh man I hear ya on this one! I've been moaning about my roots for a while now. the problem for me is that I don't really like me with darker hair, so I just keep suffering, hehe...

I'm a somewhat new follower on your blog and twitter. Love your blog and tweets!
I went darker when I had my son only b/c it was less maintenance. I have to say that I love it. You will also notice that your hair will be healthier as well.
Have you ever tried the ION deep conditioning treatments from Sally's Beauty supply? They are the same thing they use at salon's and only cost about $1.50 a pack. You only use half with your length and your hair feels like silk after you blow dry. I've found this helps me. Can't wait to see pics.

DO IT, I SAY! But a suggestion- you are so fair-toned, maybe look at adding a teeny touch of red to it? The problem for me is that whenever I dye my hair super dark, it doesn't match my eyebrows or my complexion well, since I am a natural dark blonde and really, horribly fair. I think the red helps combat it a bit, and warms things up.

I also add blonde highlights to the top layers of my hair, just to give it depth. But then I just touch up the roots on the top of my head every few weeks myself- it is so much easier!

I can't wait to see your new hair, doll! You'll look great no matter what you do!

I love the new darker look! I think it will look great. I'm always in the same boat with whether or not to go back to my darker hair because blonde is so hard to maintain properly.

I think you will look great! Try it and if you don't like it, you can always go light again. I have naturally very dark hair and have always kept it this color because I know going light would be way too much work! The shade in your virtual makeover is so chic!

Judging by the photo, I think this is going to be a great look for you... probably even better than the blonde! I tried going totally darker and I look drab and plain... let us know how it turns out!!!

Can't wait to see! A shiny, healthy head of hair is pretty no matter what color it is - you're going to look fabulous. (And maybe spend the extra highlights $$ on shoes!)

I am the same way!!! I dyed my hair back my natural hair color last year. This is actually the longest I've ever gone without going back to blonde. And, my checking account is much happier too:) My hair grows too fast to keep it blonde, and my hair is super dark naturally anyways!!! I think it will look great:)

the brunette color is sooo cute in the photo!! i'm sure it'll take some getting used to, but it looks so cute! it'll be fun for the summer to have a change too.

i'm thinking of chopping ALL my hair off into a pixie cut, after seeing really cute pictures of natalie portman when she had her hair short. so that would be a big change too. not sure if i'm 100% committed though.

MEGAN! WHAT! you have always the quintessential blonde--I just can't imagine you as brunette. Well I am sure it will look fabulous; you can pull off absolutely anything. Hope you are coming back in town soon for Keeneland!

i'm sure you will look beautiful either way! and you'll save so much money. I went dark for a period of about 9 months sophomore year of college. I look back at pics and think it looks so strange, ha! But I LOVED not having to get to the salon or risk looking like I live in a trailer park!
