PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Natural Remedies

Natural Remedies

You all know that I am "all up in" some skincare. I literally live for facial masks, skincare lines, peels, treatments, etc.

I recently discovered Makeup Alley, which is a website dedicated to reviewing anything and everything involving beauty.

I was on Makeup Alley for TWO hours last night. I sorted facial masks by percentage of people that said they would "buy again" and by rating. What I discovered was that the facial masks that were natural "do at home" masks had the highest ratings of all.

First, I noticed that the Oatmeal mask had super-high ratings. You just crush up some oats and mix with water and apply to your face. Leave it on for 10-20 minutes and then wash off. I have not tried this yet, but I plan on trying it today. You can bet that I will report back to you.

Another popular mask was an "aspirin mask". Essentially, you just crush up 4 aspirin pills and mix with water to form a paste. You then apply to your face and leave on for 20 minutes, then wash it off. This is supposed to be a cure all for people with flare ups or acne. While I don't have acne, I will also be trying this one just out of curiosity.

And third, a mask that had rave reviews was the Aztec Indian Healing Clay mask. A lot of people mix this inexpensive clay with Apple Cider Vinegar for a "chemical peel" effect. You can mix it with water if you have sensitive skin or are nervous about it being too harsh. Since I already use a glycolic acid peel 3x a week, I will be mixing this with Apple Cider Vinegar for sure.

Have any of you all ever tried any of these natural masks? If so, please comment and let me know what you thought!

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all of these...especially the aspirin mask since that's the one I could benefit the most from. As always, thanks for keeping us "in the know."

I've done the aspirin mask when I was having flare ups with acne. When the mask starts drying, it gets crumbly. You have to be careful with putting it on your forehead. The aspirin will flake down into your eyes and it burns like a crazy. Some people mix it with honey, but it grossed me out because of how sticky it is.

I want to try that clay mask!

I love MUA! I've been on it for over 7 years now. Productville is a great resource - I always check it before I buy something. You should also try swapping if you have unused/lightly used products you don't want anymore.

it's so funny, i was going to tell you about the aztec mask. i don't think i have too sensitive of skin, and i've used it a few times with water. it does not mix all that well, it comes out pretty clumpy. i put it on and it burns and itches... it's not the most comfortable thing in the world. I leave it on for about 10 minutes, that's the longest i can tolerate it for. the result is worth it, my face is super smooth after i use it. i try to do it once a week. i love the boscia mask though, i got it after you said how great it is, and i'm really really happy with it. that's my favorite of the two. :)

I've been making aspirin masks for years! I make mine with a bit of honey & baking soda. I would definitely recommend!

I've only done oatmeal mask once because it is incredibly messy!

I've done the aspirin mask. After it dried I re dampened it and kind of used it as a scrub to exfoliate - double duty! Did you know you can buy aspirin powders at the Walmarts? I think they're called B&C or something like that. They dissolve a lot easier than the pills.

I've heard of the aspirin one... it's also good to crush up an aspirin, mix with water and use as a spot treatment for a pimple. Another good remedy for a spot is dabbing a bit of toothpaste on it!

Hello!

Just popped by to explain that aspirin masks on acne because aspirin is a form of salycilic acid.

hey there! thought i would share a great natural scrub with you: mixing egg whites and coffee grounds is great for a facial scrub! the coffee protects against free radicals and caffeine in moderation is good for your skin (caffeine is actually in tons of cosmetic products!). the egg whites moisturize and soften skin, as well as unclog pores.

i only recently learned all of this and then your posted this post - so I thought i would share! (:

I'm trying to aspirin mask tonight. I have to stop by the pharmacy anyway. I'll let you know what comes of my skin. I need all the help I can get after having children. It's amazing how much your body chemistry changes.
