I know you all must think I am the most indecisive person ever with my hair, and you are totally right. I go from one color to the next. Well, I really do LOVE the darker hair on me, but see the pic below I'd like to title, "skank roots":
Yes friends. This is growth from 4 weeks. I never really know what my natural hair color is, but it is definitely a lot lighter than I ever imagined, especially up against this dark brown.
I went on a googling adventure and attempted to find ways to fade hair color. One way was to shampoo with Dawn Dish washing liquid. I did this last night to no avail. I think I will just have to get a lighter base color. Why did I ever go darker in the first place? Oh yeah, because I am crazy, that's why. Oh well, at least I'm adventurous.
Here are some recent OOTD's taken via the ole iPhone.
This is an old Trina Turk top that I've had for years. I love wearing it because it's so bright and fun:
This is a Forever 21 blouse I've had for a couple of months:
And lastly, allow me to introduce my current obsession, Scar Away Scar Sheets. These are not just for scars, friends. I first learned of these from my fellow beauty guru, Dishy Decorator. You can apply these to areas where you are prone to get wrinkles or have wrinkles and they will diminish within a month! These really work!
Anyone have any hair fading tips?

omg i absolutely love your posts!! do those sheets really work?!
I switch to drugstore shampoo (something like Prell) when it becomes clear that my fancy redhead salon shampoo isn't going to turn an inch of blond roots red.
If you're planning on lightening your base there are two ways that your stylist may do it. The first is put on a sulfur based color stripper (which will lift your hair up to reddish-orange light brown nasty color) and then apply the desired color. You hair will feel like shit after this so you'll have to really baby it if you want to keep it long. Or you can start applying a subtly lighter and lighter base each time you have your hair colored. Over time your ends will fade and get trimmed. Your hair will eventually blend completely again. This is a slower process but it will protect the integrity of the hair. most people want to go the quick and dirty route and are underwhelmed with the results. To fade the ends now you can sprinkle powder Cascade in your shampoo. Or hair bleach (if your really brave). make sure you condition like crazy after home hair fading. Good Luck!!!
we seem to have similar hair/skin color. my natural is a mousy brown/dirty blonde (i call it gray) and against my chocolate brown hair- it's a disaster. i have committed to a 4 week retouch and a clear gloss each time. it runs me $65/month but i've never been happier with my hair.
2 months ago i had some ombre highlights put in and i swear, they get better with time. it breaks up the dark and with the right color technician, they look amazing. mine are painted on and in some places, no more than 10 hairs are colored.
Lots of washing usually does the trick for me. You are a beautiful brunette but an awesome blonde too! I always say, if you can be a blonde and look good don't ever be another color!
I had a recent color ish that left me looking like a vampire. The Dawn really does work but you have to do it for like a week or so! VO5 or another really cheap Clarifying shampoo works wonders too!
Love that Trina Turk top!
Your hair looks lovely, even with skank roots! You make them look fashionable. But srsly, your hair still looks fabulous, enviable really, and SO LONG!
and..
God Bless the Dishy Decorator for sharing the secret of the scar sheets! My crows feet have diminished significantly since I started using them a month ago! FOR REAL!
maybe you should try some at home root touch ups between colorings? do love that color on you!
and love the top!
I am off to buy some of those scar sheets right now. Genius!
I'm the same way! I have hair schizophrenia! I go from blond to dark brown, to strawberry blond. I'm happy for about a month and want to change it again.
Just don't do it yourself. A professional can lighten you up a little without too much damage!
I loved this post :) I need to look into those scar sheets!!
Rod at pageboy rescued me and told me to wash with Tide for several days ina row. it worked :)
Try baby shampoo. That usually works for me. It will probably take a couple washes though.
I once had a "hair mishap" and ended up calling the clairol hotline. They recommended a product called "Metalex", I think. It lifts the color, but I had to apply it and let it sit 3 times before my hair was back to blond. This was several years ago, and I purchased it at Sally's. I bet they would have some sort of color lifter if that one isn't available any more. It was quite oily and didn't seem to damage my hair at all. It was a lot like a hot oil treatment, but stickier. Good luck, but I think your hair is gorgeous as is!
Head and shoulders...leave it on for 20 mins before rinsing and repeat it for a week or so. :)
