PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: Hair Rut

Hair Rut

I am in a hair rut. Perhaps it is the fact that my hair resembles a rat's nest most days. Or it might be that I have pretty much given up combing it out after showering because the tangles are so bad.

Calling all fellow tangled hair gals- help a sister out and tell me your miracle product? I feel like I've literally tried everything for detangling/leave-in-conditioning and nothing works.

I probably just need a good 'ole trim to snip the janky ends off. Perhaps even a conditioning treatment?

Help.

It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Conditioner

Loved this post. My tangles are one of the many reasons behind my blog title. :)

1. Schedule a trim. Ask the stylist how much she thinks you should take off. That definitely helped me.
2. Comb conditioner through your hair while you're in the shower. I bought a wide tooth comb from Sally Beauty Supply. I just hook it on my shower caddy.
3. Switch products often.
4. Try a deep conditioner every third day or so.

I just started using the Living Proof (Sephora brand) products - I was skeptical but I had a 15% off code so I tried them and they're great. I use the no frizz shampoo/conditioner and even though it says for fine to medium hair (mine's super thick), the no frizz spray is a good, easy detangler. I'm hooked! Sniff before you try, though - the girl at the store said people either love or hate the scent.

Fekkai Protien RX Anti Breakage Treatment Mask!

I use Kenra leave in conditioner or Acquage leave in conditioner. Both are great products.

My hair is always tangled, it drives me crazy. It has been this way since I was little. And I just cut off about 4 inches and it is still tangled. I just have that fine hair with a slight wave that likes to tangle.

My struggle is finding a conditioner that works but that doesn't leave my hair so flat. I have had some luck with Crude.

Your hair looks beautiful though ;)

Conditioner often is not enough, do you also use a deep conditioner/ hair masks? Do you use a clarifying shampoo to deeply cleanse hair and remove silicone buid-up? Or use a stay in conditioner like Revlon Equave ( I don´t like leave in conditioners, but all of my friends use one)

I have a ton of tangles and use Bumble and Bumble Prep. Spray in your hair after you towl dry and comb thru with a wide tooth comb. Then go about your business with moroccanoil, etc.

Bumble and Bumble Super Rich conditioner is also excellent for detangling in the shower.

Get a detangling comb and comb it out while the conditioner is in it in the shower. Also, B&B tonic helps with detangling after a shower.

Do you brush it before you shower?? I have some pretty think wavy hair and I always brush the hell out of it with a paddle brush before and then use a creamy conditioner and just let it dry natural. Other products tend to make my hair greasy so I just get a rich conditioner and make sure I wash it all out!

Aveda's Smooth Infusion conditioner worked wonders for me!

LBO said...

Have you tried Aveda's Damage Remedy? I have fried my hair numerous times in constant attempt to achienve the "perfect blonde" color. This product has saved my hair time and time again. I highly recommend it!!!

Definitely try Aveda products. I use almost all of them.
Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother is my favorite.
Although I also love the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, Hang Straight and Phomollient Styling Foam.
Some times I use them all....some days I just use my Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother. I use the SI Style Prep Smoother after every wash.

Also the Volumizing Tonic is awesome too...but its for your roots.

I have the most tangly hair of anyone I've ever met. Ive found that using a comb before brushing helps a lot too.

i have long and thick hair and my hair is ALWAYS tangled when I get out of the shower - but for the past year I learnt a trick - brush it before you get in the shower and then while your in the shower leave the conditioner on for like 3-4 minutes while you shave or wash and then brush you hair with the conditioner in there - it works like a charm ha!

I'm in the same boat! Coming my hair in the shower with a detangling comb definitely helps, but I also use Sebastian's Potion No 9 when I get out and that stuff is amazing for wavy hair!

I used to swim and got awful mats in the back of my hair because of the chlorine and the swim cap. Twice a month I would use olive oil on them and it worked really well!

You are going to laugh but......Loreal makes a detangling spray for kids, smells great and as I found out in a pinch :) takes out tangles in grown up hair just as well as kiddie hair! Spray after showering and comb through with a wide tooth comb.

I've been using Fekkai protein Rx mask and Moroccan oil for a while but I'm in the same situation like you because I get it blow dried in hair salons too often.

My hairdresser said that NOTHING can mend split ends caused by the constant hair pulling unfortunately. I got a hair cut, I'm taking a break from blow dries and I'll try some home remedies. I read something about using dark beer on your hair because of protein in it (yes, read Guinness). I'll also try egg and olive oil hair mask, I'd do anything for my hair :) Good luck!

Real conditioner weighs my hair down too much (even my stylist told me not to use it), but I couldn't deal w/ the tangles.

So I've been using this http://tinyurl.com/3j9kfzm

It's pretty light and doesn't have a scent or anything when I use it with my regular products. I use Bumble & Bumble everything else.

I use 3 products together that have completely changed how easily it is to comb out my hair.
1. Biolage Daily Leave-In Tonic, followed by
2. Redkin Satinwear 02 blow dry lotion, followed by
3. Moroccan Oil
After I blow dry and straighten, I run Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream, and my hair has never been softer. Good luck, girl!

Have you ever tried Infusium 23 leave-in hair conditioner. I've been using it forever and could not live without it. It's lightweight and detangles so well.

Joico moisture recovery shampoo and conditioner in the shower and biolage daily leave in tonic afterwards. I recently tried the kerestase anti fizz oil and it left my hair super silky!!! Good luck!

Aquage Detangler is the best. I have fine, thin hair and this product doesn't weigh it down, or make my hair greasy. It smells good too!

How did you like the Bumble and Bumble thickening spray by the way?

Jordan - Queen of LA! said...

this sounds a little silly, but i am INSANE about taking care of my hair (ever since i fried it, i literally spare no expense in products) and for years i have used detangler for little kids - suave awesome apple detangler. it smells good, is so cheap, and makes my hair SO easy to comb through!

It's a 10. swear by it.

DermOrganic Masque Intensive Hair Conditioner has been my answer to tangles. I always had tangles after intensive conditioning (and I've tried all sorts of products) until my hairdresser introduced me to this product. For the first time ever, I can easily use my wide-tooth comb after washing! I also use the DermOrganic Conditioning Shampoo and their Moroccan Argan Oil before a blow out. It's made a huge difference in my hair and really reduced the number of split ends (I now get my hair trimmed every 3 mo. instead of every 6 wks).

I have lots and lots of super fine hair. I used to swear by shampoo in the shower and suave kids detangling spray after. I know that sounds so funny but it was especially good during the summer.

It's-A-10 spray leave in conditioner is by far the greatest detangling product ever made! I put my hair in a towel after the shower, then spray about 5-6 sprays of this stuff in my hair, then run some Moroccan Oil on the ends... and I am able to comb through! I don't know what I did before they made this stuff!

You and me both! It seems like anything I put in my hair turns ORANGE!
