PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: This & That: Life Lately

This & That: Life Lately

Thank you all so much for your comments on my giveaway post last week.  I always love hearing what you would like to see on PIPM, and some of you suggested more life posts.

I never really discussed it, but I lost my job in April of this year due to budget cuts.  Since then, I can't tell you how many jobs I've applied for and never heard from anyone.  Also, I had so many interviews where I thought it went so well and would never hear from the Interviewer again even after emailing them asking for updates.  I think these days people just don't follow up after an interview which is so bizarre to me.  Luckily I've been able to do some side work here and there to keep my skills fresh and make some money.  And I finally start a new job in a couple of weeks!

Last week I came to Kentucky to visit my parents while I still had some #funemployment time left.  I am starting a new job soon and wanted to take advantage of my time off.  While I was here I went up to the new Outlet Shops of the Bluegrass in Simpsonville.  I wasn't impressed with the outlets as a whole but did find some good bargains at the Saks Off 5th Outlet and the J.Crew Factory store.  Have any of you all been yet?

I really enjoy going to the Zappos/6pm Outlet when I am here as well.  You pretty much can't get me to pay full retail on anything these days.  I am always looking for a bargain and have turned into quite the sale shopper/eBayer.  Would you all be interested in a post where I share eBay and deal hunting secrets? I haven't paid full price for something in ages (except for the cult favorite Kendra Scott necklace).

I can't believe I turn 30 in November.  This year of 29 has been an interesting one for sure.  I kind of had a mental meltdown in January because of stress, not sleeping, and dealing with severe anxiety (which I had for years) and was diagnosed with having Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which was masked as anxiety.  This isn't the "oh I love to clean" OCD, this is the obsessional repetitive thoughts OCD that will literally plague and debilitate you.  I haven't really talked about it because it's honestly a period of time I'd like to erase ... it was a really rough time and I was really depressed, but I am doing 100% better now.

I have also been working out a lot lately and love going to Hot Yoga and Cardio Barre.  I never understood why people worked out before for emotional well-being, but it totally makes sense now.  I feel so great every time I leave a class and feel invigorated for the rest of my day.  I also love the sense of community you get after going to the same classes consistently.

Well, I hope I didn't bore you all with my life updates.  I will try to do more posts like these if you all like them.  Have a great Monday!

I hit up the Outlets and I found some good deals and items in the workout apparel sections. I needed new workout shoes and some new workout bottoms. Under Armour was where I was most impressed. I didn't much look for everyday/work clothes.

Glad you found a job! I work in HR and we always tell everyone what their status - don't want anyone left hanging! Good luck in your new role.

I love this type of post - a good mix of what's going on :) Congrats on finding a job and the right balance that works for you. I'd love to know more about your ebay tricks. I've bought a few things here and there, but I feel so overwhelmed whenever I search for something that most of the time I just give up. Thanks!

This is great Megan- I really agree re: the sense of community. People find it totally obnoxious, but my gym friendships have really improved my life!

Congrats on the new job! And I'm so glad you're doing better. I would love to hear your eBay tips… I used to love eBay shopping but get really overwhelmed and mostly just sell my stuff on eBay instead of shopping. Thanks for keeping it real!

My federal contract job is ending this week and I've applied for at least a dozen jobs, hoping to transition from one job to another. Not hearing anything is so frustrating and unprofessional, especially when these are professional positions I'm applying for!! Congrats on your new position and have a great first day :)

Congrats on the new job, Megan! I enjoy reading your posts because you have always seemed "real" to me, when a lot of other blogs are clearly not realistic. Since we seem to have similar skin tones/hair colors, I especially like your posts on skin care, makeup and hair products. Love the new color, by the way! I also enjoyed your recent post on cute workout separates. Finally, I think you have great taste in luxury items and a post on eBay and/or finding sales online would be helpful! Thanks for writing about the things that have been going on in your life, many people can relate, I'm sure. Best Wishes!

Hi, I've read your blog for sometime and I enjoy all of the style posts, but I really appreciate this post. I too have some anxiety problems, and I have also found that working out has really helped my emotional well-being. Thanks again for posting this update!

Megan,

I went through a similar rough patch in 2012 right after my wedding- a perfect storm of life transitions, loss of loved ones, and big, looming career questions. I feel for you and understand that it can be a constant battle to find a good place for yourself. Just wanted to share my support.

Megan,

Obviously this has been a rough year for you. I certainly sounds like it is on the up swing. I'm sure you will a wonderful asset to your new company.

I would love, love, love to have a post on how to bargain shop. It will probably be my favorite post.
